Thank You Parent, Thank you Teacher!

Class XII Boards results were out sometime back. Parents and students went into seasonal hassle displaying emotions varying from normal anxieties to unwarranted paranoia. Joint Engineering Entrance Exam results, Delhi University cut off did not help many. Those having all their calculations around these options only are the ones more in trouble. Amongst these usual spectacles that we experience year after year, I received a refreshingly welcome letter from a parent in my school. Here is the letter (modified a bit to maintain objectivity):

(Thank you parent for permitting me to share)

Dear Principal,

Hope you are doing well...

I would like to take this opportunity to Thank you for the reference letters given by you as well as the other subject teachers.Pranad scored around 80% in 12th, well way below your other students for sure...however, since he never really studied hard and has a very illegible handwriting I was certain he just won’t score very well...I’m quite ok with his marks though!

Your teachers have sure done an excellent job in bringing him to this level...

Counselor: For being an excellent support and trusting that Pranad would do well. There were times when I saw his attitude and gave up, Mam was always there with encouraging words...An awesome counselor....am at a loss of words to describe Mam, and her belief in my child as well as other children...

Physics Teacher: By using the “Carrot n Stick” really helped him in studies, called him on weekday, weekends pushing him to study hard and help him always, a great teacher.

Biology Teacher: Pranads favorite teacher who called him and spent a lot of time teaching him individually at times at school...

Chemistry Teacher: He scored the least in Chemistry, however Mam put in a lot of effort calling him for extra classes....there were times he used to run from school and come back home and Mam used to call me to say that he was to give a test...Had to force him to give the test next day .Well now that results are out, I can only smile at what all we as parents also have to go thru for the sake of children..

Bio-Tech Teacher: Well he scored the most in this subject and plans to take Biotech as an Undergrad...His aim is to do research in Marine Biology though...

Physical Education Teacher: For all the guidance for PE...

Pranad gave the IELTS exam in between his board practical’s with no coaching and scored 7...which is good, for that all thanks to his class VIII Teacher and the confidence she brought in him as his Class Teacher when he joined Ahlcon in Class 8.

A very big thanks to his English teacher...too for the patience as well as Class teacher, she did give up on Pranad due to his attitude in Class 12 Pranad will never make to best colleges in DU in the face of daunting cut –offs but he has received offer from:

A) AUSTRALIA: The following are in the 800 world list of best universities.

University of Sydney- BSc –Science-( QS World Ranking 45 in the World)

University of Technology Sydney- BSc –Marine Biology

Macquarie University, Sydney- BSc –Marine Science with Scholarship

University of Westen Sydney- for BSc –Science with Scholarship.

B) NEW ZEALAND:

Auckland University of Technology-: BSc –Marine Biology

Victoria Institute, Wellington-: BSc –Marine Biology.

C) SINGAPORE:

With tuition grant...

We plan to send him to Singapore as it’s a conservative, disciplined place. Closer home...Costs lower than Aus/NZ...He can choose his subject Marine Biology for his PG and study wherever he wants since then he would be more responsible and mature...His visa would be filed in August since course starts in October 2016.

So, once again would like to Thank you and your awesome team who put in so much of efforts to bring the best in children...Let’s hope Pranad does well and makes his Alma Mater proud

And Congrats for your schools awesome Board results, with you at the helm am sure your school will always do well...

Thanks and regards,

(Parent)

Having read the letter (and thank you for that),you may be wondering:

1) Why all parents are not like Pranad’s having full faith in child’s abilities and not in percentages.

2) How parents and teachers should work together to bring out the best in children.

3) How is that the best universities abroad are able to see talent in our students with 80% and our own institutions do not.

Please reflect!
