1. When does stress become a problem?
Stress is not a problem, getting stressed is. If one is overpowered by the stress and one’s concentration and efficiency suffers, the problem has set in. Severe stress causes several mental/physical ailments.

There are several motivating factors that help people take action. One needs both internal and external drive to work towards achieving goals. Devotion to work has its roots in strong motivations. Ironical as it may look, moderate anxiety or some stress is also considered necessary to provide motivation.

Prevention first, regular work habits, planned work, practice and rehearsals keep the stress levels under control. Precautions such as good sleep pattern, a good diet, physical exercise, yoga and meditation are very helpful. In the case of young children role of teachers, parents are very important in enabling stress-free environment.
4. Why do you think some strategies are more effective in reducing stress levels?
In case of students appearing for examination personalised attention, repeated reassurances, avoiding comparisons and linking exam results to career, life goals parental aspirations is very helpful.
5. What can school heads/ staff can do to tackle stress among students?
Effective organization of teachers’ efforts depends upon collaboration between the school and the parents. Psychological and emotional support has to come from both sides. During the examination, there is a strong possibility of students getting trapped in black and white thinking leading to questions directed at the self. This is also about the time young students identify themselves with someone they trust, they can open with and share issues unhesitatingly. This could be one of their teachers, a matured friend or one of the parents themselves. Such identification must be encouraged.
