In the morning assembly today, young students of the middle school presented a beautiful thought quoting Rabindranath Tagore, ' where the mind is without fear". The sacrifices made by the men and women in the armed forces were highlighted to bring in the values of valour, dedication and sacrifice. Some students role played, short videos were shown and a Q & A session followed. The response of the students made me think about how effective is role play and visual presentation in conveying messages of importance. School assemblies set the tone of the day, invocation, presentations, thought of the day, school news, birthday wishes, quizzes, celebrations make a great start. Every child deserves a champion-an adult, who never gives up on them and works with them to bring out the best in them- fortunately, teachers are called upon to take this role every day.
An ex-student dropped in to say, “My teachers trusted me when I was not prepared to trust myself.”
In a comprehensive school like K-12, one comes across children as young as 3 and as old as 17. It offers challenges in designing curriculum, infrastructure, outdoor activities and assessment tools. Outcomes are equally satisfying too. While in corridors you meet a 5yrs old who needs help in climbing and the next moment you come across a 10th grader jumping 10 steps down. That’s what keeps us going!!!
