Report on 24 hours of Climate Reality

Ahlcon International School has always shown great interest in engaging the students in various activities to expand their knowledge beyond the academic curriculum and mobilise their resources towards achieving a sustainable environment. Taking this enthusiasm forward, Dr Ashok Kumar Pandey, Director, Ahlcon Schools, conducted a workshop to address the growing issue of climate change for the students and teachers of Ahlcon International and Ahlcon Public school, on Thursday, 21st November 2019, in the conference room. The title of the workshop was "24 hours of Climate Reality". This workshop was a part of the initiative by Al Gore, former Vice President of US.

Al Gore has been fighting for climate action for decades. Since 2006, he has trained nearly 21,000 Climate Reality Leader activists to follow his lead educating and empowering people around the world to take action.

Dr Pandey commenced his presentation by talking about Mr Al Gore and his mission towards a sustainable and healthy environment. He presented the facts and figures of growing pollution and its harmful effects. The need of the hour is to keep the global temperature from rising above 1 degree Celsius each year. He discussed about the major sources of pollution and its alternatives. Coal-based power plants are the leading cause of pollution and this can be replaced by using renewable sources of energy like solar energy and wind energy.

The presentation was informative, statistical and provided a clear picture of the present scenario and the steps that need to be taken by the concerned authorities. He emphasised that, as concerned and responsible citizens, we should use our voice to start speaking "Truth to Power" and begin by initiating a dialogue with the policymakers.

Citizens across the globe who attended this presentation also got the golden opportunity to be a part of the incredible initiative, One Tree Planted, an NGO working towards reforestation. They work towards having a tree planted in recognition of our attendance at the 24 Hours of Reality: Truth in Action presentation. The workshop helped everyone involved realise their duties towards managing the climate crisis and they had an enriching learning experience.
